From a 10-foot cage to the Oakland hills
Sitara's journey is the reason this coin exists. Here's what happened, in order.
A 10×10 enclosure, and nothing else
Sitara spent her early life confined to a concrete space barely larger than a parking spot, at a private facility with no room for a tiger to be a tiger — no roaming, no enrichment, no real care.
The facility was shut down
Regulators stepped in and closed the operation for good. Sitara was one of the animals left needing a real home — one built for a big cat, not a business.
Welcome to the Oakland Zoo
Sitara relocated to the Oakland Zoo, where she has space to roam, a team dedicated to her wellbeing, and the kind of life she never had before. This is where her story turns around.
